Become a Shareholder

Gartmore Community Shop was set up in 1997 as a community co-operative registered under the Industrial & Provident Societies Acts 1965-78.

There are currently over 130 shareholders many of whom bought shares at the outset in order to secure the Shop's future. Since then, others have joined, but also shareholders have reclaimed shares when they have moved away or for other reasons.

The majority of shareholders live in or around Gartmore, but there are others who live away from the village (our most distant member lives in Canada), but have historical ties to Gartmore through family or work and have an interest in 'doing their bit' to help maintain the village shop.

Since the community shop was first set up, the village has seen a lot of changes and sadly the number of shareholders has declined which means the Shop has refunded shares, but has not managed to replace them with the equivalent new shareholders. We are particularly keen for people new to the village to realise that becoming part of this community venture is the best way to keep the Shop now and for future generations.

We welcome new shareholders at any time. Shares cost £1 each and can be purchased via the Shop.

If you would like to know more about becoming a shareholder and to receive an application form to purchase shares, please email the Secretary, David Teed, or use the form in the Contact Us section of the website.

Thank you for supporting Gartmore Shop.
